Daddio Day

So we celebrated Daddio Day a couple weeks ago and here's a little recap. We had our cousins - Eli and Isaiah - hanging with us as they had spent the night so we woke up and went to Maggie Daley park, then we had lunch and headed out to Nana and Papa's for the day. There, we found more than 30 frogs with our cousin Sophie and spent the day taking care of them and then let them go at the end of the day before we went home (Nana's rule. Don't tell her I said this but we think it's a stupid one, her worst by far. We really wanted to take a couple back to the city with us. Also, Mae cried really hard when she let hers go. His name was Pork Chop, he was special).

But before all that, we took a few minutes to recognize dear old dad (stress the word "old" there) and gave him the cards we made.

Mae went first... because she's the most impatient person on Earth, but whatever.

Pax was up next. Take a look at the photo and then we'll talk about some of the things going on.

First of all, we do not normally dress Pax like he's a grandmother in her nightshirt. I don't remember exactly but it was very likely one of two things: 1) He had just eaten and proceeded to spill immense amounts of food and drink on his clothes and we grabbed the closest thing we could find, which was my t-shirt, or 2) he was naked, likely outside in the backyard, and before we did cards he needed to be covered up, so we grabbed the closest thing we could find, which was my t-shirt.

Likely #2.

The second thing going on in this photo is that someone OBVIOUSLY has to go to the bathroom. This is common for Mae. You can often find her either doing this or what we call The Pee-Pee Dance, where she's literally hopping around and squirming and it looks like she's dancing to a very strange beat.

Back to the card giving. After that it was my turn to give Dad his card and then I wanted to get a picture with just him but Mae wouldn't let that happen because she felt the need to be in the picture too. It's not like you can see my disgust reflected on my face or anything.

Okay, I'm over it. Much better.

Lastly, I'd like to show you what I believe is the most creative card either purchased or created for Father's Day... IN THE ENTIRE WORLD.

As mentioned, my cousin Isaiah stayed the night, so he was up the night before pretty late making his card. After a couple mishaps and a little frustration he took a breath and started over. Obviously a huge Blackhawks fan, by the time he went to bed that night he had created this masterpiece.

For those of you who do not know, that is a picture of the Stanley Cup, won by our beloved NHL Champion Chicago Blackhawks just a couple weeks before this card was created.

Father's Day

The Big Dog, The Main Man, The Enchilada, Chief Blackhawk... he goes by a lot of things in this house (even a couple things Mom has called him over the years that I'm not sure what they mean but they don't sound particularly wonderful).

I call him Dad, and that's good enough for me.

And here is three generations of my homeboys.

Oh, and one clarifying statement: you don't see Mabel Jane in any photos because she was a nasty hag that day and refused to be in any (turns out she had 104 temperature, but whatever, no excuses in my book).

Ya know, I was gonna end the post right there but I decided in honor of this day I wanted to take a look back at my pops and me over the years, just hanging like only we know how.

I could have totally included pictures coming up of Dad with Mae and Pax, too, but they don't call this blog Mabel's Fabels, do they? Or Pax's Picnic? Nope, they don't.

Dad's Day

Father's Day started out pretty well with some DAD pancakes for breakfast.

Then it was time to give him his cards we made for him. Mae went first...

And Mae gave Dad one of her vintage Mabel Jane signature kisses for Father's Day.

Next up was me. First I gave him the cards I made him...

And then I gave him the gift I made him to wear all day, a pretty sweet necktie that I could've actually sold to Nordstroms to sell on their tie rack, but I decided to skip the easy money and instead give my Dad something he could wear on his special day.

Later, while everyone was getting ready to go to the pool, I drew pictures for him all over my arms and legs. Rainbows, sunshines. I even wrote FINLEY MABEL BEST FRIENDS.

We headed out to Nana's later in the day and got a couple more good shots in with dear old Dad.

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there.

Happy Father's Day

So look, I know this blog is all about me, but even I'm not so narcissistic to think that today is about me. So here's a pic of my Dad, on his day, with the Bell, Mabel Jane.

And to all you Dads out there, here's to you.
