Birthday Month... Continued

So our birthdays, they just never quit. Here we are thinking that our birthdays are done being celebrated when Grandma and Grandpa come to town and keep the festivities going.

The morning started out with a large pile of gifts which, after opened, turned out to be this amazing doll/doghouse - one for Mae and one for me and lots of little things you can set up on the inside.

Then we turned on some tunes and got the place hopping.

So I call this move the downtown zazzer.

Nobody's really quite sure what Mae calls this move.

Grandpa and Mabel Jane spent some quality time together.

Later that night, after dinner, we got out the cupcakes that Grandma had made for our birthday and did some singing and candle blowing.

And the next morning we went to Nana's. Not that Nana, the other one - at 33rd and Halsted, where they make bear pancakes and peanut-butter-chocolate donuts.

And then to cap off the weekend we hit the dog show and spent some time with some furry freaks.

(I mean, seriously?)

And some time with some furry friends.

And some time with some dog who looked like he just finished smoking some reefer at a Bob Marley concert.

Mae's New Friend

So we made our annual trip to the Dog Show last Sunday and it was quite the occasion. As usual, we made the rounds and saw all the dogs but with one in particular made a long-lasting friendship, or at least Mae did.

It started with a simple hello, the usual dog sniff of the hand.
Then he said he wanted to tell Mae a secret so she gave him her ear and, well, he took it.
And then he fell in love with Mae and things got out of hand.

And then, well, nothing. He went into some fake grass area and ran around in a circle. Mae said goodbye and told him we'd write.

Oh, and one more thing - has anyone seen the Summer? I'm pretty much ready for the pool.

Soulmates

One thing I didn't mention in my last post about the Dog Show. This was such big news that I thought it deserved its own post.

You know how you can have a soulmate? Well, it's quite clear I have found mine, but it's in the form of a dog (which should surprise no one) and it's more like a hairmate. Here, see for yourself.

My Day With Dogs

As many of you know, I'm nutso about dogs, so Mom and Dad decided why not take me to the Dog Show at McCormick Place, and off we went.

Here's the set-up: They had about 25 rings where the dogs that all looked exactly the same would line up and run around in circles. Then there would be this old dude or old gal who would stare at the dogs and pretend to notice something amazing about one or two of them that no one else did. Then he/she would go down the line and choose one and the owner and his/her family would all go crazy and do a victory dance.

The best part, though, was in the back - they had every dog who was at the show hanging out at their respective little set-ups and you could go back there and see them and pet them. Here's a peek at what we saw.

This is the dog version of the Three Stooges
And you just know this one was made fun of in doggy high school.
Here are a couple of Dad's favorites (Cue Mom in the background whispering, "Over my dead body.")
I, obviously, might have to use my persuasion techniques on Mom in a few years because I, too, am a fan of the oversized canine.
Needless to say, it was an exhausting day. And don't laugh, you know you've all been there before, sitting on an airplane, relaxed, and next thing you know you wake up with your mouth open and some drool sliding down your chin...

So I saw a lot of dogs - some of them were lame, some of them I really liked, but my heart, as it always will, still belongs to Boss.
