Birthday Candle Catastrophe

We all have our moments, right? And I'm a pretty self-deprecating little gal so I figured after all the posts you've seen of me showing off my best, I'd give you a little look into one of my worst moments.

I was at Sophie and Hannah's (my cousins) birthday party last night. Mom and Dad stayed home to be close to the hospital because Mom is getting very close to having this baby.

Well, here is the text that Uncle Kenny sent to my dad:

I'll keep this short. It was hysterical. All the little ones asked if they could eat the frosting off Sophie's candles. I said sure you can. Five seconds later Fin taps me on the shoulder and mumbles, "Uncle Kenny, this doesn't taste very good."

Yep, I started licking that frosting and as I did that green candle started looking like it might taste just as good as the frosting...

So there you have it, not one of my best moments but certainly one of my funnier ones.

Mae Day! Mae Day!

In honor of my widdle buddy, I thought I'd take a look back. As some of you know, Mabel turned three last Sunday, so let's go on a little history adventure, shall we?

This is Mabel Jane on the day when she blessed this world with her presence. Funny thing is, I don't think she weighs that much more now than she did on this day.

Before we start skipping to the annual photos here's Mae at one month old, just chillin.

Here's Mae right around her first birthday. I chose this picture because my photo editor told me it is his favorite photo of all time, simple as that.

Here's Mae on her second birthday, just rockin the piggies and getting ready to blow out her candle.

And here's Mae today, a few days removed from turning three, in her brand new apron that she got from her friend, Kim. Also ever-present you can see her new Blackhawks hat. I asked dad to take me to the store to get a Blackhawks hat and when Mae woke up from nap she really wanted one, too, so we went back and got her one.

And so it is that I say happy birthday to the lovely and talented and always bursting with fruit flavor, Mabel Jane Skertich. You are the love of our lives and the light of our home (I know, super deep, right? But it's true, Mae).

Binky Go Bye Bye

So there's a Binky Fairy and supposedly on your 3rd birthday she comes and takes your binky and then you don't have it anymore. Yeah, well, Binky Fairy knew better than to come near my binky so I'm still rocking it.

But the other day when Mom and Dad got done with work I decided, on my own, that I was going to throw my binkies in the garbage.

It. Was. Time.

So I gave the lid a lift...

Held them over and...

Down the hatch. As you can see, thought twice about it after I let them drop into the muck down below. But that was it, nothing I could do about it, they were gone, in the garbage and we weren't getting them back.
So that night the rubber hit the road, I made it happen, vamoos binky, I passed the test, that binky was a candle in the wind, if you love something set it free, every cloud has a silver lining (wait, that last one might not apply)...

Um.... dug it up before bed, just can't live without it quite yet.

Don't judge me.
