Channeling Johnny Denver

So here's the situation - every night we do books, prayers and songs and then it's time for me to hit the hay. Well, the songs are usually little diddys like Jack & Diane.... wait, no, they're usually little diddys like Twinkle Twinkle or Animal Crackers In My Soup or Farmer In The Dell.

Well, the other night Dad said he had grown tired of those songs and maybe it was time for a change. While I lay there waiting for a song, he racked his brain for the right tune - it needed to be something soft but not lame, fun but not cooky.

So he landed on "Country Roads" by John Denver. Well, here we were tonight not five days after the first time I heard it and Dad says, "Fin, you want to learn 'Country Roads?' I'll teach the chorus to you" and starts singing it.

And, as you'll see, I'm like, "Dude, I already know it."

And somewhere, John Denver was smiling.

Super Sunday

Sunday was awesome - the weather was warm, the day started out with a long walk in the stroller and some good breakfast at my favorite spot - Little Branch. But that was just the beginning.

In the afternoon, when I got up from my nap, Mom and I went out on the deck and did some planting.

Yep, I wear my visor low, never know who you might run into up on my deck that you don't want to recognize you.

Then we came inside and all decided we wanted some chocolate chip cookies, so I got to work on that in a hurry, perfecting my form...

... then laying them out on the pan.

And then, well, it was time to eat those bad boys and not worry about what my face looked like.

Lots more photos from the day - just CLICK HERE - more planting photos, more cookie photos and more Mabel photos, and I mean, come one, who can't use a little more Mabel?

FIRST HAIRCUT!

25 months this mop has been growing without even a snippet to keep it under control. Well, that all changed on Wednesday night.

Dad has his regular haircut scheduled with Crizzen, who also cuts Aunt Tasha's hair, so the whole gang saddled up and I joined him on a haircutting journey. It was such an event even Mabel came.

Here's my hair and me heading to the chair... kinda looks like a horse heading into battle now that I actually see it from the back.
Wasn't crazy about this whole haircutting thing at first... I mean, why not just let it grow down to my feet?

But after a few combs and a few cuts it was like, "Hmmm, I could get used to this."

(told you the whole gang was there)

And violin! Wait, maybe it's "viola!" - I can never keep those two straight. Either way, what's that old Shania Twain song - "Feels Like A Woman"? I might not go that far, but it sure does look good, doesn't it.

Baptized!

So Sunday our little Mabel got baptized and then, more importantly, we had a party at our house where all my cousins and friends came over.

The day started out with Mabel doing her new thing in the Bumpo chair, which is fun because now she can sit up at the table with us when we eat.
(Note: Check out to Mabel's left, on the wall, that is basically the wall that is right next to my seat at the table. Apparently the wall is my canvas and food is my paintbrush)

Then we went up to Mom and Dad's room and Mabel did a little pre-baptism photo shoot. It's kind of like a walk on the red carpet except she can't walk and there was no red carpet, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

Here's Mabel in Mom's Grandpa Henry's baptism gown, which is over 100 years old. During the ceremony, Mabel pulled a fast one on the priest; he went to put the oil on her forehead and she sneezed really hard and blew it all over him. After three and a half months, the little joker in her came out - it was a really sweet move.
Oh, not many pics of me at the post-party because I was all over the place, running around in the park out front, the whole bit. However, this is what "too many cupcakes" looks like, if you're wondering.

Toe Jammin

So usually Mom or Dad paints my toe nails but this time around I thought I'd give it a go on my own.
As you can see, I'm a natural pedicurist.

And from time to time the toes get boring so I like to paint my arms... nothin wrong with that, either.

Kids 'N' Kites

So the annual Kids N Kites was this past weekend and Mom took Sophie and me up to Montrose Harbor where we met some of our other friends and had at it.
There were tons of really cool kites, and then after watching them fly we went to a booth for some painting fun.
Mom got me a kite while we were there so I took it home and today Dad and I flew it today out front in our park. First we had to get set up. Dad would hold the string to test the wind and I would hold the back.

And then our kite flying hit a snag because... there was no wind. Enter: improvisation. Dad made like Walter Payton, cradled me like a football and sprinted for the end zone while I held the kite string and the kite followed up in the air behind us.

And then our kite flying hit a snag again because it found a tree.
What the...
But in case you didn't know, my Dad is a ninja so a kite stuck up in a tree 25 feet in the air is what we call no big deal, and we were shortly back in business.

And by the way, there has been a LOT of fun stuff going on and some great pics of Mabel taken, so CLICK HERE to see what I mean.
